In referencing the Chairs tenure and previous roles is it not worth also mentioning that this Chair, Elizabeth Coutts oversaw the disastrous investment in automating the Ports of Auckland container terminal and was chair while fatalities occurred.
Lets be clear $65m was written off in 2022 and by 2023 a further $16m was added. Mark Binns was brought in to independently review the outcome and considered that the project lacked robust oversight and scrutiny. https://newsroom.co.nz/2022/10/02/ports-of-auckland-automation-pt-2-liz-coutts/

Sustaining tenure at another company with this disturbing track record shouldn’t be dismissed or overlooked. Her title is mentioned but her performance is not. These are big numbers and a death is a death. Another report, below is the link, also weighs in on how badly they operated under her watch.

I recommend that NZSA provide additional disclosures or scrutiny so that someones position or title isn’t seen as a mark of respect /badge of honour. If the track record of a director is littered with failures or a single mega failure then the positions they held over that time do not warrant attention other than a black mark.
