BRANCH MEETING DATES & CONFIRMED SPEAKERS FOR 2021

Date

Speaker

Tue 13 July 2021
Khandallah Town Hall

Dr Brian Ward, Founder and CEO of Aroa Biosurgery Ltd

Our guest speaker for July 2021 is Dr Brian Ward of Aroa Biosurgery Ltd.  Aroa is a soft-tissue regeneration company that develops, manufactures and distributes medical and surgical products to improve healing in complex wounds and soft tissue reconstruction.

We’ve all heard the story about the New Zealand economy being built off the sheep’s back. But what about the sheep’s stomach? This company has been quietly developing and manufacturing high-tech healthcare products founded on the tissue regenerative properties found in sheep's stomach (well, the forestomach, aka rumen, to be exact) and which provide a biological ‘scaffolding’ on which new tissue can grow
!  They provide products for surgeons and clinicians to repair serious soft tissue injuries, specifically in the areas of wound care (primarily for conventionally hard-to-treat venous and diabetic ulcers) and surgical mesh (currently used in hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction operations).

Aroa Biosurgery is headquartered in Auckland and is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX:ARX). The company has U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and has gained reimbursement from the Centre for Medicare and Medicaid Services for an ECM based product allowing widespread access in all their sites across USA.

Brian has been described as
something of a biotech renaissance man. He's a veterinarian with international experience in med-tech and pharma (including Baxter, Beecham and SmithKline Beecham), he is also a former chief executive of biotech industry organisation NZBio.

Hear from Brian about his ambitions for the company and the progress that's being made to become a major player in the global soft-tissue repair market.
